Santa Barbara Courthouse Elopement | Lauren Newman Photography

Planning a wedding in 2020 has been complicated to say the least, but brides and grooms like Dee and Tommy have had such a great attitude throughout all of the disappointment this year has brought on.

When Dee and Tommy let me know that they wanted to do an elopement at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, about a three hour drive from Los Angeles, I jumped for joy at the opportunity to document this intimate and special occasion at such a beautiful location here in Southern California. To abide by the current state regulations we kept the small gathering to immediate family only which added to the relaxed atmosphere of this perfect day.

Very rarely have I seen a cloud in the sky in Santa Barbara but during "June Gloom" there can be a marine layer which usually burns off by the late afternoon. However, this day was absolutely gorgeous and a sunny 75 degrees all day. Dee and Tommy's outfits complimented each other and the flowers were perfect. Not to mention so many fun details sprinkled throughout the day, like Dee’s custom denim jacket that reads '“Mrs. Dowling” on that back that she made herself!

We took our time and were able to capture gorgeous photos all over the courthouse premises. The architecture of the Santa Barbara Courthouse is stunning and makes for a great backdrop for couples portraits. Even during broad daylight it is easy to find shaded areas to balance out the lighting, which can often be tricky at other locations. Dee and Tommy have a great, and much needed, sense of humor during these strange times and brought a couple bottles of Corona to celebrate their big day! When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Or in this case, when 2020 gives you Corona, bring a lime and make the best of it!

Be safe and kind out there, y'all!

Lauren
